Ingersoll Condemned To Davy Jone's Locker
Being one of the newest Destroyers in the Spruance Class it was one of the first to be decommissioned. It was determined the removal of the Tomahawk Cruise Missile armored box launchers would be too costly to retrofit to the vertical launch system being deployed on ships not upgraded to the Tomahawk. On July 24, 1998 Ingersoll was decommissioned and transferred to the inactive ship anchorage at Pearl Harbor until she was sunk on July 29, 2003.
